Dana D. Brooks, Ed.D., West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV Keynote Presentation Thursday, November 12, 2009
Keynote Speaker
Dana Brooks is professor and dean, College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences.  In addition to his administrative duties, he teaches a graduate class in Sport Sociology and an undergraduate course in African Americans in Sport.  Dana served as Past-President of West Virginia AAHPERD, Past-President of Midwest AAHPERD, Midwest District Rep to the Board of Governors, and presently serves as President-elect of AAHPERD.  He served on numerous state, district, and national professional committees.  His research targets the African American college athletes’ experiences.  Two of his co-edited books include “Diversity and Social Justice in College Sports” and “Racism in College Athletics” (2nd edition).  Dana has presented about 100 scholarly papers at the state, district, national, and international levels.

Irena Cucina

Irene Cucina is an Associate Professor in the Health and Human Performance Department at Plymouth State University. She currently serves as the University’s Director of Teacher Education, is the assistant chair of the HHP Department and is the Program Coordinator for the Graduate Health and Physical Education Program. Her undergraduate responsibilities include teaching in the physical education teacher certification program with an emphasis on Methods and Assessment. She is involved in the graduate program teaching statistics and supervising numerous internships. Irene has also been on 11 athletic training thesis committees. Irene is the co-advisor of the Phi Epsilon Kappa Honor Society.

Irene spent over 16 years teaching health, physical education, and science n the public schools. Her research interests include assessment principles and practices, the effects of physical activity and wellness within the public school setting, and improving teacher education to meet the needs of public school students in today’s classrooms.
