Milton Elementary School Awarded STARS Level II for Physical Education Program Excellence

Milton Elementary School’s physical education program is the first and only Vermont school to receive the prestigious STARS award sponsored by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). Congratulations go to physical educators Marie Froeschl, Cory Payson, John Geary and Catherine Rodgers on this impressive accomplishment. With the achievement of a level II STARS award Milton Elementary School’s model physical education program sets a high standard for quality physical education in Vermont and nation-wide. In April the team of physical educators will receive their award at a national convention in Fort Worth, Texas. Schools across Vermont are encouraged to apply for STARS recognition. VTAHPERD is pleased to offer the following educator of the year awards. All recipients of the awards (except the Layperson award) are passed onto the Eastern District Association, and AAHPERD.

Layperson of the Year...
The layperson of the Year Award is awarded by VTAHPERD to an individual who is not a member of the profession but contributes significantly to the community by advocating for and promoting a quality active and healthy lifestyle for all.


Recreation Educator of the Year...

This award is given to an individual who contributes significantly to the community by advocating for and promoting a quality and healthy lifestyle in the field of recreation. >Nomination Form


Dance Educator of the Year...

To qualify for this award you must be employed as a full time dance educator K-12 and 50% or more of their job is devoted to teaching dance.  This individual must promote dance as a creative art form, serves as a positive role model, and present a balanced and sequential curriculum. >Nomination Form


Health Educator of the Year...

To qualify for this award, the individual does not have to be a member of VTAHPERD, but they do need to be a certified teacher in their field and have the majority of their teaching in the health field. >Nomination Form


Physical Education Teacher of the Year...

This individual must be a member of VTAHPERD, a certified teacher who has a minimum of 5 years of teaching in their field and a majority of teaching in physical education. There is a separate award for elementary; middle; high school; and college.  Finalists are asked to submit a video to the Awards Committee chair. >Nomination Form


Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year...

This individual must be a current member of VTAHPERD, who is a certified teacher with a minimum of five years of teaching in physical education and a majority of teaching in adapted physical education. There will be one award for K – College educators. All finalists are asked to submit a video.
