It's Official: We have a new name.

Killington, VT, On Friday, November, 13, 2015, during the Vermont Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance's annual business meeting at the Killington Grand, members unanimously voted to change their name to the Society of Health and Physical Educators of Vermont. The new name change was prompted by the need to produce a name that is simpler to remember, say and publicizes the society's overall mission though the use of an acronym.

SHAPE-Vermont is the association's third name change since its establishment in the 1950's. Upon the completion of the vote, newly elected president Mark Weikert said "This name change is two fold: First it aligns Vermont with our National Association (SHAPE America). And second it better represents our membership."

SHAPE-VERMONT represents membership of 350 professional and pre-professional members in the fields of health and physical education. The society's goal is to help members throughout the year by providing training opportunities and presenting material of importance to them. Each fall an annual conference is held, which offers knowledge about exceptional programs, grants, new state guidelines and services for our members.

In the months to come, the society expects to unveil a new logo, website and some merchandise. Click here to listen to the new SHAPE-VT public service announcement already airing in Vermont.
